As soon as the Anarchists appear its nearly always game over for the Republicans. There seems to be another point in game where its sink or swim for the AI, and that's when the wars within wars begin. It's a micromanagement hell of course, but some people prefer it that way. So the way round is, and the only way I've found is to play the slow game.

If you push hard enough and create gaps in the enemy's front line, the friendly AI reorganises, but in doing so it completely abandons key locations in order to plug the gap. The front line battle planner the AI uses is an absolute disaster. I've got a save game at the point the war goes from totally controlled, with the Republicans owning 40% of the VP's to unwinnable in the space of a few days. If you rush the VP's, which is possible, you risk disrupting the front line to the extent the war becomes unwinnable. It's a slow burner always has been and always will be. So what gives? Well, there are two major problems that need addressed ideally, to help balance things.įirst of all, you need to play the slow game. But 99% of the time this doesn't happen, even with 6 fully equipt divisions helping them out. My primary goal, playing as the SU is to help the Republicans win the war, and then turn them communist. As well as great XP farming it also has shown me a few things how the mechanics work etc. So I tend to play as France, or the Soviet Union, and send as many volunteers as I can. I often play a nation who has the ability to help the Republican side without playing Spain itself. I'm fascinated by the Spanish Civil war in this game.
